Great Sound, but will it break easily?
I bought this headset for my HP Mini which has a combined jack for mic and headphones -- you can only use one of those devices at a time ! So, the only way I could find to use a separate headset was to buy a USB model. Having used Plantronics products for years, I anticipated a quality unit. The audio quality from both the headphones and microphone is excellent. Listening to music is a pleasure with quite good bass response and what my ears consider to be a good range of frequency response. Using the headset on Skype, the reports from those I have called are good.

My only real concern is the durability of the headset. It is plastic and there are a lot of joints to deal with. With care, it should last. When folded it fits nicely into a larger size soft-side sunglasses case which may offer some protection in my briefcase. Time will tell. Another minor issue is the length of the cord. It is about 9' long and simply WAY too long for use while traveling. I ended up bundling and tie-wrapping about 5' of the cord neatly to keep it out of the way.

As usual, Amazon shipped it reaonably quickly in a box but with minimal packing material. Thankfully Plantronics packaged it well enough that it didn't get destroyed enroute. Come on Amazon, learn to pack things properly ! ! !

Overall, if this headset doesn't self-destruct, I'll be a very happy buyer.

Headset works well; Long cord both an advantage and disadvantage
I'm enjoying my Plantronics headset. I returned a Koss headset after being dissatisfied with the sound quality of the microphone and am very pleased with the sound quality of this microphone. I think that the sound quality of this mic is better than the sound quality of my partner's Logitech headset (we often speak to each other on Skype).

I like the way the headset folds to make it smaller and easier to pack into my laptop computer case.

I had read reviews about the long cord and thought that it was a plus to have a long cord. I still feel that this is an advantage. However, the cord often gets intertwined with other cords that come out of the computer. As I'm writing this, I decided to put a Velcro tie onto the cord - I just did it: I created a loop of 2 or 3 feet of cord and tied it together to shorten the cord. I should be able to release the Velcro in a few seconds to lengthen the cord, whenever I want it longer.

Plantronics headsets are the best
Pros: Comfortably fits on my head. Cord is long; too long is good you can cable tie it, too short is unusable if the PC is too far. USB dongle soundcard installs well with Vista and is interchangeable with ANY other mic/speaker. This makes it so that if you have a bad soundcard or no soundcard, this will replace it. IT folds neatly for travel. Vol control and mic mute on the cord.

Cons: earpads are very flat and firm, so it hurts the tragus and antitragus of my ear since mine stick out a little bit. Fluffier earpads may help that but there are no replacements in the box.. and thats just a con if I want to be picky because I really like these headphones.

Love the USB connector
I use many different computers and the USB connector for the headphones is very convenient. I don't have to go fiddling around to find which port is for the speaker and which is for the mic. Even if I have to plug into the back of a computer I can find the USB jack without pulling out the computer and getting out a flash light. They fold down very nicely and the cord is really long. I keep it partially bundled most of the time. but if I have to plug it in under the desk and behind the computer I still have the freedom of not holding my head 2 inches from the desk to hear.

Long lasting it's not!
Nice enough product, but fans are already going out. The unit helped cooling my laptop and I was happy enough with the product, but it wasn't 6 months and the fans are growling and going out. They are extremely noisy on start up and do quiet down after a minute or so. I am just disappointed they didn't last longer with no more use than I gave them.

Not good if you are going to use the laptop on your lap
The Cooler pad works great if you are using it on a flat surface. There is no bottom. In other words, all the fans are exposed at the bottom and do not expect to use your Laptop on your lap using the cool pad. Otherwise it works just fine.

Died in 2 months
This is the worst laptop cooler I've ever had. My laptop has heat damage (thanks to my roommate first semester of college), therefore I can't run it without a fan unless I want to crash in the space of 2 hours. I've gone through a number of different laptop coolers/ fans and this has been the worst. First of all, It has no protection for the fans at all, to the point that I have to find a large book or something like that to set the cooler on so that I can use my laptop in my lap and not get the fans caught on my clothing. That was a huge annoyance, but something I could deal with. Then it turns out that the cooler ends up dying on me in 2 months or less after I purchased it. Yuck!!

disappointed!!!! 0 stars
I received this piece of junk today and it is missing the back and it is not worth $2, much less the price I paid. It looks like something a child would put together for a school project. I ordered it for my daughter to keep the heat off her lap while doing schoolwork and I am so disappointed! Even if it worked, I would have been better off going to WalMart etc. I have ordered many, many things from Amazon, this is the first time I have gotten junk. Believe me this is the last order that will come from me. It is an inconvenience for me to return items as I am disabled. Do better, Amazon.

Good Buy
This is not the most aesthetically pleasing piece of equipment, but it really does the job well. I have been living with a hot laptop whenever I work for long hours. Not only is it not hot, it is now ergonomically angled for better typing. This fan is ugly as sin, but I am loving it.

Key Features

The Longest-Lasting Macbook Battery Ever--Up to 7 Hours

Now take MacBook with you everywhere without worrying about plugging in or even carrying your power adapter. Its built-in lithium-polymer battery lasts up to 7 hours on a single charge, which makes it perfect for long flights, all-day workshops, and marathon study sessions. Thanks to its advanced battery chemistry and charging technology, the MacBook battery can be recharged up to 1000 times--good for about five years of typical usage--and lasts nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries.

A Comfortable Keyboard Your Fingers Will Love
The MacBook's keyboard is full size, with keys that are curved to contain your fingers and highly responsive to your touch. Its low-profile design integrates perfectly into the unibody enclosure, so you'll get a comfortable experience whether you're typing a quick email or writing a lengthy research report. The keyboard also gives you one-touch access to music and video controls and Mac OS X features such as Dashboard and Exposé.

Spacious Glass Multi-Touch Trackpad
The new MacBook Multi-Touch trackpad has no button because it is the button. Not having a separate button also makes for a larger trackpad surface, giving your fingers more room to move, click, and gesture. And because the trackpad supports Multi-Touch gestures, you can use one or more fingers to interact with your documents, images, and applications with gestures such as two-finger scroll, pinch, swipe, and rotate. If you come from a right-click world, you can configure a right-click area on the trackpad or simply press with two fingers.

Some of the multi-touch gestures you can perform with the MacBook.

Wireless That Works
Connect to the Internet at fast speeds anywhere thanks to the built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi. Like everything else about a Mac, joining Wi-Fi networks couldn't be simpler. If you've previously connected to a network, your Mac automatically logs you in so you can immediately email, surf the web, or video chat. Have a Bluetooth-enabled phone, headset, keyboard, or mouse? They can all connect to your MacBook courtesy of built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR--and it remembers all your devices, too

Innovative Power Cord
The MagSafe Power Adapter has a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So if someone happens to trip over the power cord while you're working, they won't send your new MacBook flying off a table or desk. Instead, the cord breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the system. As a bonus, you can tell if your MacBook is fully charged when the LED on the connector changes from amber to green.

Easy Access To Connections And Ports
The connections and ports on MacBook--MagSafe power, Gigabit Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, USB, and audio in/out--are all smartly integrated on the same side of the notebook. So your cables stay neatly organized, and connecting and disconnecting your devices is easy and convenient.

Pre-Loaded with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife '09

Every Mac comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world's most advanced operating system, and iLife, Apple's innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Snow Leopard builds on a decade of OS X innovation and success with hundreds of refinements, new core technologies and out of the box support for Microsoft Exchange. iLife features iPhoto, to easily organize and manage photos; iMovie with powerful easy-to-use new features such as Precision Editor, video stabilization and advanced drag and drop; and GarageBand which introduces a whole new way to help you learn to play piano and guitar.

Installed software

  • Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools)
  • iLife '09 (includes iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD)

Environmentally Friendly Design

Because Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes.

A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).

Advanced Power Management
Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, MacBook uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode on already energy-efficient LED-backlit displays. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings.

Longer-lasting Battery--Lasts up to 5 Years
The removable batteries in most notebooks are designed to be replaced every year or two, which means lots of batteries are used up and discarded. But the battery in the new MacBook lasts up to five years--or 1000 recharges. So it uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three, reducing waste and environmental impact. And to help ensure that batteries are disposed of in an environmentally responsible way, Apple offers a battery take-back program in 95 percent of the countries in which it does business.

ENERGY STAR Qualification
The MacBook meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, making it ENERGY STAR qualified. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

Great Update.
I am a big mac fan I have a 13" MBP and a 15" MBP both current models, the day this was release I ordered from Apple.
The fans and heat are much better on this then my other two laptop,it is dead silent.
Not having a firewire does not bother me in the least (used it once in years).
The uni body is very well made and has no flex to it at all.I prefer this over my 13" MBP in a heartbeat.
The screen is bright and clear much nicer then the 13"MBP and love it without the glass over it.

I suggest this to anyone thinking about the Macbookpro..

My first Mac. :)
Wow. Okay, I previously had a Sony Vaio that ran Windows Vista. It wasn't a bad computer in any sense, but now that I've owned this Macbook for a day, I can already see that it wasn't a GREAT computer at all! Even after a single day, I can already tell that this Mac has pulled me in, and I will never go back to Windows computers, unless they somehow become more amazing than Apple. But they won't. Once you go Mac, you don't go back ;)

But... anyway. The pros:
1. Start up/shut down. Shut down takes 5 seconds, and start up takes 10-20 seconds. My jaw dropped when I actually saw it happen.
2. The BATTERY. It really will last up to seven hours. Which I need, as I am a college student. If nothing else, get it for the battery life, haha.
3. Ease of use! I know my way around Windows computers quite well, and this was my first Mac, but my gosh, I've caught on quite quickly. Installing & uninstalling "apps" is 1000X easier than programs in Windows. I couldn't believe it was so easy, again, until I saw myself do it. If you happen to lose anything, spotlight will easily find it for you. Similar to the "search" feature in Vista's start menu.
4. The power adapter. It really is a simple magnet. You can pull as hard as you want, and the computer is going nowhere as it detaches.
5. The keyboard, and track pad! And... well, honestly, everything else, haha.

Cons:
1. No SD card slot. But this can easily be fixed by purchasing a SD-USB item. I haven't done so yet, but eh.

Overall, this is definitely a computer you should get. I once thought Apple overpriced its computers, by looking at the technical specs. Now I realize, you really do get what you pay for. Mac is sooo much better! Now I'm a believer :P

Solid upgrade for the MacBook
Pros:

- Unibody enclosure
- Same battery as the MacBook Pro
- Same graphics and processor (low end) of 13" MBP
- Glass multi-touch trackpad
- 250GB Hard Drive (bigger than entry level MBP)
- DDR3 RAM
- LED Backlit Display
- SuperDrive
- New AC Adapter (I just like it better. Basically the same as a MB Air's)
- Snow Leopard
- Price

Cons:

- No backlit keyboard
- Bezel around the display isn't as "refined" and the edge to edge glass on the MBP
- No Firewire. Isn't that big for current products as most things are going USB, but legacy items and high transfer rates of Firewire 800 or sustained throughput of 400 would have been nice.
- Battery is non-removable. Again, could be a big deal for some.
- "Non-slip" bottom is rather slippery and tends to gather crud easily, but then again, it's easy to wipe clean
- While I would surely say that the new case is more pro than con (looks better, doesn't get dirty as easily, fingerprints rub right off) that high gloss is rather easy to scratch.
- Finally, this is more neutral than con, I would have liked to have seen a $50 price drop, putting this machine for students and educators, who make up a sizable chunk of Apple's target demographic, at $899. With everything that has changed on this machine, I can see why it didn't happen.

Overall, I would say that this is an very solid machine. For those looking for the "best overall value" in the notebook line, I say that it would be a toss up for me between this guy and the 2.53 MBP. For most users, this is more than enough machine and would be my pick for them. With the overall features, value, and redesigned exterior (and interior), this is really a great machine.

My First Mac. Not the current model but it doesn't really matter.

In a nutshell, I love this little white MacBook. I bought it in Jan '09 and upgraded the memory to 2G (just for fun) and later upgraded to Snow Leopard (again just for fun).

The Mac OS has performed flawlessly and so has the computer. The "blue screen of death" situation just doesn't occur. When a 3rd party program occasionally gets tangled up in itself it either closes down and you return to your desktop or if it hangs you can do a "Force Quit" and it quits. Simply an amazing feature of an operating system.

I have used MS operating systems since 1986, prior to that a TRS Color Computer. DOS always seemed stabile but starting with Windows 3 all that changed then along came Win 95, Win 98, Win ME and finally XP. I realized that for one reason or another I was having to do a hard system restore 3 to 5 times a year and that had been going on for a very long time. For a long time I thought maybe it was because of something I had done wrong but finally realized it wasn't me. I finally grew tired of Windows instability and vulnerability while on the internet and started experimenting with Linux.

Linux is cool but after trying some 15 - 20 different flavors of it and not finding any of them fully compatible with my old Dell laptop (and not being geeky enough to figure out how to make everything work) I gave up on Linux and made the transition to Mac and have absolutely no regrets. Everything works so smoothly together and with the OS and hardware designed hand in hand why wouldn't it?

I used Boot Camp to install a OEM copy of XP in a small partition of my hard drive and about the only reason I maintain that is so I can run an old version of Flight Sim once in a while. I have no other need for Windows. I'm not a gamer and my computing needs are pretty much met with iWork and my camera's software.

Buy the Mac, you'll love it. Buy David Pogue's book so you will know where stuff is and how to use it.

No Reason Not to Consider, Same Punch, Smaller Price
I had intended to purchase my mother a Macbook for some time now. I wobbled between the several models I considered. However, Apple's late October 2009 update to the white polycarbonate MacBook made the decision much easier.

Reasons for my Decision - With this update to the 13-inch white MacBook, Apple gave its entry-notebook impressive numbers. The processor a 2.26 GHZ Core 2 Duo is the same processor found in the 13-inch MacBook Pro. 2GB of memory? Same as the Pro. Nvidia 9400 Graphics, Same as the Pro. Hard drive? 250 GB, bigger than the MacBook Pro (it has 160GB only).

Yes, considering the larger hard drive, 250 versus 160, this white MacBook actually gives you a higher specification computer in some regards than the $200 more expensive MacBook Pro 13-inch. Remember this updated white MacBook also now incorporates the unibody under its polycarbonate shell. The unibody provides strength, and I must say this notebook is very solid. Furthermore, Apple has incorporated a long-life battery! The only downside is Apple must replace it, though it has a longer life cycle. In terms of performance, my mother reported to me simple usage of nearly six hours on a charge. Impressive. Blows away my older Mac notebook's battery.

Yes, this white MacBook does lack the remote control sensor, Firewire Port, and backlit keyboard that the MacBook Pro would offer, but my mother would likely not use those features and she had an affinity towards the white polycarbonate. The white does look nice, but handle and place it on surfaces very carefully as it will show light scratches easily.

The bottom of the MacBook is a bit strange. It is a rubber seal so to speak like what is found on the bottom of Airport Extreme and Apple TV. I'm not certain I like that choice by Apple. The material does pick up dirt easily. I would recommend wiping off whatever surface you are going to sit the computer on, to remove light dust, if you worry about the computer's appearance.

Overall, I was looking to find a quality Mac, for my mother. I didn't want to compromise performance, and I feel I didn't despite choosing this entry-level MacBook. Truly, with its stats, it can hardly be called entry level. My daily Mac is only slightly faster. These computers are getting faster and faster, and they impress me. Snow Leopard is great, and my mother is enjoying iPhoto and iMovie, all included with the computer.

The price to value of this MacBook is remarkable. At two hundred less than the MacBook Pro you get the same speed and memory, plus a larger hard drive. You can't argue with that. I didn't, and the MacBook has impressed.

I have lost two laptops to overheating of the CPU. Over the years the pads that hold the computer off the work service have grown smaller... this reduces the air circulation under the laptop.

This has been a costly experience not having the cooling pad.

Laptop Cooling Pad
I purchased this for my wife to use with her Powerbook, since it was running with the internal fan on a good deal of the time.
I took the laptop to the Apple Genius bar, and they found that the laptop was operating fine. Another customer suggested a
different brand of cooling pad, but this one seemed to be a better buy. After 4 months it has worked well and kept the laptop
running cooler. It is large and slippery for 12 inch laptop.

Just great
My laptop doesn't heat that much so 4me it is just perfect! So quietly and keeps my laptop in a perfect position to write withou getting tired. I recommend if your laptop just heat a point that it can get your hand hot, cause the cooler is not that strong but it's so quietly, really, that compensates!

Disappointed
The Xpad Slim is light and a nice size. However, one of the main things I want in a laptop cooler pad, in addition to helping my laptop cool properly, is for it to keep the heat from my laptop off my lap, as I often work away from a desk. I use a MacBook and am disappointed with the Xpad Slim as I find it gets very warm underneath. I think the Logitech N100 Cooling Pad is much better as far as keeping the laptop itself and the area under my laptop cool.

Fantastic Product, although not a cooler
This product does exactly what it advertises. It is slim, lightweight, creates space under my laptop for the heat to escape, and provides a barrier from the heat of my laptop to my legs. It does not dig into my legs. I throw it in the same bag as my laptop.

I watch movies on my laptop and it does provide a significant difference then when I just had it on my lap. Before I had used pillows or a book, but this works a lot better. The only thing that worked better than this was a butler's tray, flipped upside down.

I gave it 4 stars because it does get warm sometimes (mostly watching movies), which makes it a little bit uncomfortable, but not unbearable.

I bought direct from them, shipping was perfect, it arrived in 2 days. I did not smell rubber when I bought it, maybe my nose is just not sensitive to rubber..? Over all a great product.

it's not worth the money
It should cost about $5 instead of $27+. I bought this piece of plastic from Amazon. The one I got, it looks so cheap and like used. I am not happy about the product at all. Like other review said. Yes, my laptop is still VERY hot and it still burns my laps even though I have this piece of plastic underneath it. I am going to return it. I would NOT RECOMMEND it to anyone!

Love It!
People always ask what it is and give me a strange look, but this is the best laptop heat shield I have ever used. I use it with a lenovo laptop and I have one I use with a mac book pro. Both work flawlessly, keep my legs protected and my laptop cool.

better than nothing
if i were to buy another cooling pad, i'd buy one with fans. i thought this would be sufficient, but my computer still often gets quite hot. better than placing directly on your desk because it allows some airflow, but overall... meh

Great for desktops, and that's about it.
A few things to note:

1. This is only for desktop use. The unit is essentially a vented aluminum tray with fans attached to the bottom. It is not enclosed underneath, so you will interfere with it if you set it on your lap.

2. It's not super-sturdy. I could see how excessive movement could cause wires to come loose or fans to get jammed.

Again, I think the important point is that it is intended for stationary, desktop use.

That said, it does have its good points:

1. It moves a *surprising* amount of air. And it's really quiet while it does.

2. The on/off switch is handy. Not completely necessary, but handy.

3. The tilted design is convenient for typing on.

One minor complaint, it takes up a USB port and doesn't give it back. There is no USB hub in the unit, so the USB port you lose powering the fan is gone.

Overall, good product, does what it's supposed to.

It works
Cheap material and it looks like it's not gonna last very long, but it works great. I think it's a good deal for the price.

A good one
It`s a good product, and I'm satisfy, but I expected more RPM in the fans.
Excellent for the price

Solid, effective, quiet.
I bought this notebook cooler for less than a minimum bet at a Black Jack table so I didn't expect much. However, it works well and its so quiet you will never know its on. You literally have to check with your hand to feel the "breeze", that's how quiet it is. Also, if you think you will feel publi-bathroom-hand-dryer type of air speed you're wrong. This thing blows but nice and smooth - just what is needed. I own a TOSHIBA 15.4" laptop. If you have a smaller notebook it may fit better as my laptop is on the brink of sliding off its rear rubber pads. The cooler is also sloped which enhances typing angle.
