Screen, Video & Audio
This notebook has a 15.4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels (native 720p for high-definition viewing). It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (up to 1750 MB allocated from the system memory). This graphics card is built with Intel Clear Video technology, which delivers clearer, more detailed images by eliminating many of the jagged edges and video artifacts seen when viewing interlaced content and features powerful color control to ensure videos are not too dark, overly bright, or washed out. It's compatible with external monitor resolutions up to 1920 x 1200.

This notebook also features an integrated audio card and two Harman Kardon stereo speakers.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Intel Wireless 5100AGN Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments).

With USB Sleep-and-Charge support, you can use your Satellite A305 to charge your favorite portable electronic devices, even when the laptop is asleep. If you use a smartphone, you can just plug it in, power up and go without having to worry that you've got enough charge. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no PCMCIA card slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. not so good
I am very disappointed with this laptop. After only two months of having and using very little, while downloading the Norton 360 online (the 60 day version that came with the computer had expired), the computer crashed! I have to say however, that I had a good experience with TOSHIBA. TOSHIBA was very professional and quick to replace the hard drive, but I feel like I have purchased a lemon and treat this computer very tenderly. I doubt that it will last as long as my Dell desk top - 10 years and still going. I'll think twice before buying another PC and may just invest and upgrade to a MAC next time.

Great computer
I'm not real good on computers and this is only the fifth I've ever bought. This one seems to be the easiest to use and is the fastest. Still learning more on how to get the most of it, but after a month I'm impressed!

Very happy with laptop
I have had this laptop for a few weeks now and really enjoy it.

The one downside: the first thing I did when I got it was to try to uninstall some of the bloatware (the Norton 360 antivirus protection in particular, since I already had my own antivirus software and having two versions on the same system can cause all sorts of problems). Uninstalling that one program caused several error messages that I couldn't resolve (I'm not very tech-savvy). It wasn't worth my time to fix it, so I did a system recovery and restored the computer to "out-of-the-box factory version" or similar terminology. That fixed the error messages, but of course the Norton was back. Being lazy, I've just decided to pay for the Norton rather than go through the hassle of uninstalling the bloatware. So just thought I'd pass on my experience.

Otherwise, I really like this laptop. It's perfectly functional for what I need (web browsing, word processing, iTunes) and seems sturdy and durable.

We have the L305-S6905 Toshiba Satellite Laptop/Black/Grayish.WebCam,Vista. Awesome Laptop!
My brother has this awesome Toshiba Black/Grayish. Sleek Laptop, Satellite but the L305-S6905 w webcam, windows vista, got it on sale at Bestbuy $599 pretty big and heavy, gets the job done though. Still have a Old Sony Vaio works just as well,ligther, But this laptop is classy!

Buyer beware !!!
I like this laptop for the price ($519), the only problem is that it doesn't have enough expansion slots for memory. What I mean is the computer arrives with 2 GB of RAM that occupy the only two slots available; if you purchase additional 2 GB you cannot install 4 GB of RAM, you have to free one slot for the 2 GB you've purchased extra, but you would only have 3 GB available. The only way to get from 2 GB to 4 GB of RAM on this computer is if you buy 2 X 2 GB of RAM ($80) and remove the original 2 GB of RAM from the laptop.

Talking about this with Toshiba wasn't a pleasant experience either and to make matters worse, after they tell you they can't do anything to aleviate your problem, the send you a customer survey asking if you would recommend Toshiba to anybody else....

Good, Reliable, Overall Great Deal
I've had this computer for four or five months and I overall love it. It's fast, has a decent sized hard drive, and is really durable. My main complaints are with Vista. The Windows toolbar frequently freezes and the volume function can become unusable when this happens. Music often skips, mostly when you're using WMP. Another issue, and I'm not sure if this is a Vista or WMP error, is the video will often play much slower than the audio. Non-vista related complaints are that this computer definitely runs hot--you're going to need to either use it so the left side isn't laying against anything, or drop an extra fifteen dollars to buy a cooling tray--and the casing shows fingerprints like no other.
However, I'm really hard on computers, both with physical bams and bangs (just this morning, I kicked it off the bed and stepped on it) and with loading it down (I download like crazy and have 80 gigs of music on this thing) and it still works like a charm. Sure, the minor glitches are annoying, but this is a good, reliable computer, is a great deal for the price, and is perfect for students. I ended up not going with the warranty, though, because the extra cash wasn't worth it. Fortunately, I haven't needed it anyway. :3

Great laptop for the price
I've had this for about a month and am very pleased. It is quick even with a lot of programs running and the keyboard is as easy to use as a full-size one (though a number pad would be nice). It seems pretty sturdy but is still toward the light end of the notebook spectrum. Battery lasts around 2 1/2 hours and charges fast. Only negative so far is that the touchpad is pretty sensitive, so you sometimes jump around accidentally. For music or movies, get external speakers. If you're the kind who hates the fingerprinted look, you might consider something else. All in all though, I think it's a steal for the price and a machine that's great for home and the road.

Toshiba customer repair service is horrible!!
The laptop it self works great but the LCD screen is very fragile and breaks very easily. Toshiba will not cover it under warranty and has no warnings on the product or in the directions. Mine broke by simply turning it on a table.

worst experience ever
out of the box it won't recognize wi fi devices. four hours with Kodak printer techs to find out this conmputer won't find it. Works okay on home wi fi internet, not with Quicksilver USB AT&T or others. All similar wifi devices were found and gtrouble free when hooked up to HP desktop with XP. These same devices worked well with my Gateway laptop too. Have to call Toshiba for an explanation when I have more hours to waste, very disappointed with my first Toshiba machine.

Toshiba Satellite 14 inch laptop
This laptop is very good for it's price, i looked every where to find a better laptop but couldn't. There are only two things i don't like about this laptop-

1) There is no HDMI output, i don't understand why any laptop doesn't have that feature.
2) The speakers are pretty bad for a laptop, looks like Toshiba found something to cut costs with. The best idea would be to buy some external speakers.

Everything else is great, the processor and memory is great. I particularly like the size and it's look. The key board is set up great, there no useless keys on this laptop.

Great display, not so great battery
The Toshiba L515-S4925 is part of Toshiba's main consumer line: the L500 series of laptops. This version is the thin-and-light entry. It's a very good laptop for someone who values good video quality (where this model excels) above battery life (where it lags behind).

A good friend bought this model and had me come over to uninstall the junk software (it was no worse than the typical bloatware found on retail notebook computers) and get it setup on his home network. Overall I liked this model but it has rather strong pluses and minuses. This is a pretty competitive market segment and I think Toshiba took a risk that will appeal to the right buyer: cut back on some less valued features and deliver a very high quality display. It's aimed pretty squarely and HP's very popular DV4 line of 14" laptops and I think it competes well on most levels and (on Amazon at least) is priced about $150 less (depending on the exact DV4 model you compare it against).

Here a quick break down of the features:

CPU: Intel Pentium T4200 2.1 GHz (my friend's came with the T4300 which is just slightly better). This is a decent dual core CPU for home use and it's pretty typical for laptops in this price range. It's not for anyone serious about gaming but it will run typical home apps and "light" games with no troubles. Two cores mean your system won't slow to a crawl just because your anti-virus kicks in. While not as powerful at the Core2 line it's still a good CPU for home users.

RAM: 4 GB 800 MHz RAM. This is becoming the new norm and it's nice because this is lot of memory and provide some future proofing. This is plenty for home use.

HDD: 320 GB 5200 RPM. This is more than most home users will need (few exceed 100GB) and the speed is what I recommend for home users because it has a much lower failure rate than faster drives (and it's plenty fast enough for home use).

Graphics chip: Intel 4500HD. This is also pretty typical of notebooks in this price range. It's great for home use (including movie playback) and can run any non-3D game just fine. Older 3D games will run great too. Most new 3D games will run at dramatically reduced settings or not run at all.

Display: 14" 1366x768 resolution (natively supports 720P video playback). This is a very nice display and I don't know of any other laptop in this price range with a screen this nice. It's is much better than the display you will get on the HP DV4-1433 which only comes in at 1280 x 800. It's bright, has brilliant colors and good blacks. Toshiba clearly thought about the most important part of the laptop for most users and stepped it up a notch from the competition. Like most home systems it's glossy which is great indoors but can be hard to read outdoors.

DVD-RW: Has a nice combo DVD-RW drive, which means you can read and write to CD and DVD media. It also has "Labelflash" which lets you use the DVD laser to "burn" blue imagery onto special media that supports it. It's not great looking but it's easier than printing, pealing, and installing labels and looks a lot better than a label written on with a sharpie. I can be slow (up to 20 min for a complex image).

Battery: 6 cell 3700mAh. Here is one of the places Toshiba trimmed money back off. This is a fairly low end 6 cell and I wouldn't expect much more than 2.5 hours of real battery life (you'll get more keeping the screen dim and turning off the wireless but who does that?). A more typical 6 cell batter will come in at 4400mAh and high-end 6 cells will deliver over 5400mAh. For most home users this is fine, they tend to plug in wherever they go. Outside the home this could get old fast.

Ports: Comes with the typical port assortment (USB, eSata, RJ-45 Lan, RJ-11 modem, VGA) except for one important one - DVI. The lack of a DVI (or HDMI) port means you will get degraded video when outputting to an external LCD monitor (because instead of a direct digital connection the video has be converted to analog sent out from the laptop and re-converted to digital by the monitor). As a result I would not recommend this model to anyone who wants to hook it up to an external display. I should not that some other L500 models do have HDMI ports

Control layout: I found the control layout to be good but not earth shattering. The picture on Amazon doesn't show the front very well so let me describe it in detail: There are lights for the wireless, AC, on/off, battery, HDD activity and the media adapter. The memory card reader is also in the front but it only handle the smaller media like SD cards to make certain your digital camera media is supported (for example no compact flash support). Here's the list: Secure Digital, Secure Digital High Capacity, Mini SD Card, Micro SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO. The volume control is also here (which is a little odd because the other controls are on the keyboard up by the display). On the sides are the usual USB, VGA, LAN, etc... Above the keyboard you will find the media controls, the on/off switch, and above the screen is the usual webcam and microphone.

Wireless: Supports older wireless specs "B" and "G" along with the newer "N" standard. You shouldn't have trouble connecting to wireless networks at home or traveling. This model does not support Blue Tooth.

Weight: At 5.02 lbs this feels pretty light and is a typical weight for 14" laptops.

Build quality: This one is always a little subjective but I found the build quality to be very good if a little boring. It's well made but there's not much trim or flash to it. There's a good side to boring: less stuff to break or scratch, and it lets Toshiba get that great display in this price range.

For the price anyone looking for a smaller and lighter laptop with a great display should be very happy here. As mentioned before serious gamers, travelers, and people planning on using an external display will probably want to keep shopping.

Great "my first laptop", but scared to shop online
The computer is great my daughter loves it! The only problem I had was with Amazon! I paid extra to have it deliver that Saturday and didn't get it until Tuesday. When I called them that Sunday, they told me it had been delivered to the wrong address and they would send another free of charge. I was upset because they made me feel like it was my fault. My extra shipping was not refunded and UPS was mean to me. Now I'm scared to make purchases online because that was alot of money in limbo and no security.

excellent value
this is an excellent laptop for everyday tasks like email, document & photo editing, itunes etc. it is not a gaming machine. it is among the lightest in its class at 5.4 pounds and looks solidly built. the preinstalled vista premium boots up fast. no issues that I can think of. some sites have talked about the power plug coming loose inside the laptop; hope toshiba has fixed it in this model. i removed the shovelware and norton, installed avg and IE8 and it works great.

Just as Advertised
The Toshiba Satellite L305-S5961 arrived on time and in perfect condition. It is as described by Amazon,and the reviews available at the time. The screen is very bright; the set-up simple and quick. I am uncertain about the 360 Norton Security package at this time. We are operating the computer with a WiFi Router, which is working well. Toshiba could have been more extensive with its instructions. So far we are satisfied after three weeks of operation.

Probably better for pros not for regular users
I am surprised that there are good reviews on Toshiba labtop, period. I used HP, Dell and Toshiba and I think the worst made is Toshiba. (Even their copy machine breaks down a lot at work). It's very sensitive and easily gets slowed down. It doesn't seem to like any antivirus software. If you leave it standing for just 15 minutes, you might as well restart; or else you will wait a very long time for each web page to download. I know that I am not a pro in computers but I didn't have problem with Dell or HP before. On top of it their tech support is terrible and totally not worth renewing the insurance. All I can say is that I will not get close to anything made by Toshiba in the future.

Shiny.....too shiny
Why on Earth Toshiba chose to use shiny black plastic for the surface of this laptop I'll never know. For an Adrian Monk-ish freak like me, the fingerprints are going to be hard to get used to. The finger pad to move the pointer with is fantasticly devoid of prints which makes me wonder why this texture wasn't used throughout.

Ignoring the cosmetics, the screen is pratically gigantic and very bright, both pluses in my book.

Another positive is the dial-controlled volume for the speakers. Much more senstive than the + and - on most laptops. This prevents the "silent to too loud" and lets you pick with much more accuracy the level of sound.

All in all, a good buy for the price.
